One for the leavers

Posted by abmo on November 7, 2007

This post is for people who leave the organized part of church in search of more of Jesus.  I hope this helps….

I’ve been reading a post on a blog called A Former Leader’s Journey.  It’s about feelings of ineptness.

Roget’s New Millennium™ Thesaurus gives us the following meanings for Ineptness.

disability, disqualification, failure, frailty, impotence, inadequacy, inaptitude, incapability, incapacitation, incapacity, incompetence, ineffectiveness, ineffectualness, inefficacy, inefficiency, ineptitude, ineptness, insufficiency, inutility, lack, necessity, powerlessness, shortcoming, unfitness, weakness

Doesn’t look good does it?  I believe (and as always, I can be wrong) that this is where Jesus will lead you, when you leave the organized part of church.  Jesus said the following:

Mat 11:28  Come to Me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

The “give you rest” part we overlook.  We come to Jesus, but we do not stop.  We believe, we need to function to have value.  But Jesus will come and give you rest.  This “rest” will look very much like the above definition of ineptness.  No direction.  No vision.  Just you and Jesus.  It is scary, being loved, when you cannot return the favour by doing something.  Being loved is what this rest is all about.  And just to make sure “it will scare the crap out of you.”

If this is where you are, it’s a good place to be.  And more importantly, you are not alone.
