Oooo….this is my first time

This is my first post.  What will I say?

Perhaps an introduction first…..I am a husband and father of three children.  Two daughters and a boy.  My wife was a veteran social worker, but as of this year she is a first year B.Com. student.  I am a librarian at the education library of the North-West University in South Africa.  Information searches are my area of expertise.

The reason for this blog?  To speak my mind.  I’m typically an introvert and have all these thoughts that mostly remain in my head.  I want them to escape.  Run wild.  OK, OK some will be fairly tame, but still, they will have escaped.

The reason for the name of my blog?  I’m a Christian and I am very slowly getting to know what that means……for me.  In Joh 3:8, Jesus says what the Christian life is like.  “The wind blows wherever it wishes; you hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. It is like that with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”(GNB)  Mmmm a life of uncertainness.  After a walk of about 14 years with Jesus, we came to a place where we ended the surety of “what was nailed down.”  We left the organized part of church life for the wilderness.  It’s been 6 years now and we love Him now more than ever.  It’s been a wonderful time and I will share what we’ve experienced over the past few years and what we are currently experiencing.  The hope part?  Someday I’ll blog about that.

I am also afraid.  To a certain extent, I hate words.  I read a lot of blogs and all the talking and talking and talking frustrates the crap out of me.  We Christians, it seems, have fallen in love with our own voices and we miss what the other person is trying to convey.  Thus, we have arguments about everything.  I am adding to this.  But, I also know that it is the only way to connect with people on the WWW.  And it is healthy to debate with an open mind.  NOTICE the open mind part!!

I believe that the Christian life is lived or experienced.  It is NOT a nice idea or ideal.  How did Francis of Assissi put it?  “Preach the gospel everyday, use words only when necessary.” (something like that.)  And in that sense words are useless.  I can talk the talk preferably a long while after walking the walk.

In all this, I hope that I can find community.  You are invited and perhaps, we can walk this journey together……..
